July 24 Combating gray skies with fabulous shoes, and shirtsAs usual, I try to look for the connections between people, and culture, and I think I found a potential, if not actual connection between Amsterdam and Seattle. We can fight the grey skies of both our cities through fashion. On the Prinsengracht, a canal facing street in the Jordaan neighborhood of Amsterdam, is a store with this window: This is the boldest collection of uber-bowling shoes I have ever seen. Look beyond and amaze yourself at the shirts. There isn’t a single pattern that doesn’t defy focus, and not a single color combination that doesn’t burn retina in a most delicious way, like the wonderful Hmong patterns in the flea market at Merced, CA. Now I know where Stephan and Tjeerd go shopping. I don’t even attempt to show the suits hanging just above frame, as I need to leave something for you to discover. Unfortunately, every time I passed the store, it was closed.
